Why do people make art? Across time, place, age, and culture, humans have created art. Creating images is an essential human function as we confront the heights and depths of our experience of life. In this course, we will respond to a universal theme each week: Identity, Power, Time, Play, Love, Consumption, Power, Consumption, Conflict, Place.
You’ll be taught how to BE an artist, how to see and think like one. You're taught how to put thought and words onto paper. It's not just about the final product, it's about how you got there and why. You’ll develop your creative muscles by practicing the Studio Habits of Mind (Develop Craft, Engage & Persist, Envision, Express, Observe, Stretch & Explore, Understanding Art, Reflect). These are useful habits no matter what you go on to do in life. You're taught more than just how to draw and paint (of course along the way you'll be taught new techniques and skills that'll surely help you improve) but this class is more than that. Strengthen your confidence and ability to express yourself in new ways.
