Students will examine google images of scientists to apply their knowledge of observations and inferences to identify problematic stereotypes surrounding scientists. Students will then create a product which aims to disrupt these stereotypes to create a more diverse and welcoming field.
What is the difference between a scientific fact and a belief? What criteria does something need to meet in order to be classified as science? What is the difference between a scientific hypothesis, prediction, law and theory? We will dive in head first to learn ways to view and question our world with a scientific lens.
The scientific process is critical in ensuring the results of an experiment are valid and reliable and can be used and applied to create new methods, innovations, medicines, etc. Not only will we be exploring each component of the scientific method, but we will also put it to the test in a series of inquiry experiments.
