Class jobs create consistent routines that provide structure, builds classroom community and culture, and helps students take ownership of their classroom. It gives the opportunity for students to explore their interests and develop talents. Also, class jobs provide students the chance to learn job application skills.
Benefit for LTELs:
Having classroom jobs provide LTELs the opportunity to feel a sense of self-worth, community, and belonging. It provides clarity on what is expected of them. LTELs feel more engaged when they have a responsibility in class and know that people are counting on them to do a certain job. Class jobs empowers students to be leaders, take ownership of their classroom, and practice important skills. Students gain transferable skills that they can use in the real world, such as applying for jobs, while also using English in practical ways.

Class jobs descriptions: Create descriptions of each class job for students to get a chance to look at. In each description, include notes on what traits would be a good fit.
Create job checklists: Once students are "hired," provide a job-specific checklist of responsibilities, including when, how often, and how to perform the job.
Feedback: Just like any content area, students will need to practice and feedback on their jobs in order to do it correctly.
Identify personal strengths: Reflect on your unique skills, talents, and experiences. Think about how these strengths would be a good fit for specific class jobs.
Apply for jobs: Having students apply for the job maximizes student buy-in, gives them the opportunity to highlight their strengths and practice their writing skills.
Use checklists: Ensure all aspects of the job are fulfilled by using the job-specific checklist.
