Sending an email to an author is a very formal thing, so it should be written in a formal manner, not text language.
Write a FORMAL letter that you will send as an e-mail to the author of your book. Your email must be a minimum of 200 words. You will need to research to find the author’s email address, and you will also need to copy all the 9th Grade English Teachers on this email. Your email should
-be in proper format (see example)
-explain what you liked about the book (specific details)
-explain what you were thinking while you were reading.
-discuss what questions or ideas about yourself, life, or others you asked while reading
-discuss the connections you had/made with the characters or events of the book.
-explain how reading this book affected you or your thoughts?
-have a meaningful subject line
-be proofread for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors before sending to the author
**We are having lots of issues with authors not having direct email addresses. If that is the case, here are a couple of things for you to try.
- Email for Mark Dunn is Markdunn2@comcast.net
- If your author has a website (most do), go to their website and click on their contact page. Their contact page may allow you to send them an email through there. What you need to do is type your email as a Google Doc and add it to the rest of your assignments. Then send the email through the author's contact page. Once you get a confirmation that your message was sent, SCREEN SHOT OR TAKE A PICTURE OF THE CONFIRMATION AND ADD IT TO THE EMAIL ON YOUR GOOGLE DOC. SO WE KNOW THAT YOU SENT IT.
- Kiera Cass is the only one that I know of who doesn't allow you to contact her that way, so you may either send her's through the mail, or send the email through her agent on her contact page. Follow the directions above about the Google Doc.
- If your author has a Facebook page, you may also send it that way as a message, although, you still have to follow the guidelines of the email, and follow the directions above about the Google Doc.
