CCISD Field Trips

(2020-2021)

CHS' NAVY JROTC STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AT THE WETLANDS - OCTOBER 2021

The Calhoun High School Navy Junior ROTC cadets volunteered at the Formosa-Tejano Wetlands to help prepare the area for school field trips. Students cleaned up inside and outside of the classroom and planted several varieties of milkweed that were grown at the Formosa Agricultural and Environmental Research Center.

9th GRADE BUG COLLECTION -OCTOBER 2021

9th Grade AP Biology Students visited the Wetlands to acquire insects for their classroom bug collection projects. A variety of dragonfly and butterfly species were identified, as well, as many varieties of beetles, bees, and wasps.

fLOATING CLASSROOM -OCTOBER 2021

6th Grade Students from CCISD boarded the Archimedes "Floating Classroom" as part of their Science Curriculum. Below are a few of the species discussed by Captain Whitney while on board.

JR. Marine - November 2021

CCISD 4th grade students attended the Junior Marine Exploration Program at Lighthouse Beach. Students attended sessions that covered marshland/wetland ecosystems, crabbing, seashells, and seining. This program was funded by the Formosa Environmental Trust Grant.

Formosa -Tejano Wetlands Trips - December 2021

CCISD 8th grade students visited the Formosa Tejano Wetlands to learn about environmental science and wetland ecology through hands-on field experiences designed to bring state curriculum to life. Several entities supported this educational experience, including Formosa Plastics, CCISD, Calhoun and Matagorda County Agrilife Extension. LNRA, GBRA and YMCA.
