HOW TO JOIN
Are you eligible?
Any person between the ages of 13 and 15 years may join the NZCF. The full consent of parents or guardians is required to apply,
and while under the age of 18 parental consent is required for all training and exercises undertaken.
A person younger than 13 may join if presently attending Year 9 at a New Zealand Secondary School.
The City of Gisborne Cadet Unit charges a Fee of $80 to cover the uniform and equipment issued to potential cadets.
Participating in unit exercises may incur extra charges, although any costs outside of government funding are often subsidised by the Unit Support Committee.
NZCF personnel are not subjected to the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971, and hence cannot be deployed into active service.
Important Note: Because we are governed by the New Zealand Defence Force and mirror their image, all potential recruits while attending all parades, activities and camps, WILL meet the appropriate standards of joining (Non-negotiable).
These are a few important ones to make a good first impression. Everything else will be taught to the cadets during a Code of Conduct Lesson.
SHORT hair for all Males. All haircuts are to be off the collar of the shirt and boxed at the back. No Step cuts, No mullets, No outrages hair styles, you get the gist.
Absolutely no Alcohol or drugs are to be taken. If it is brought to a staff members attention that this is occurring, you will be dismissed from the unit. This also includes turning up to places of parade intoxicated or under any forms of influence.
Absolutely no forms of bullying are tolerated at the City of Gisborne Cadet unit and will be dealt with accordingly and immediately.
Females: Hair in a bun (hairnets). If you do not own any our Female NCO's will craft some easy to make hairnets so you never run out.
Only one pair of studded earrings are to be worn.
No nail polish, clear is acceptable.
Hair is to be of natural colour. BLUE and GREEN are not natural colours team!
How to Join
Joining a Cadet Unit is really easy. Just follow the following steps:
You must be at least 13 or in Year 9 at High School. Most people who join are between 13-15.
Make contact with the City of Gisborne Cadet Unit.
With your parents / guardian visit the unit on one of their parade nights and meet the Unit staff.
The Unit staff will show you around, talk to you about Cadets and probably invite you to attend a couple of parades before any commitment is made.
When you have made up your mind that the NZ Cadet Forces is for you the Unit staff will give you an enrolment form to fill in and ask your parent / guardian to sign.
Hand the completed enrolment form to the Unit Staff.
Lastly, to receive all the uniforms and equipment from the unit as initial issues, a fee of $80 is to be made ($20 a term), this is to be payed at the start of every year on the first-second parade night.
