ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS

Anzac Day is observed on 25 April.

It commemorates New Zealanders killed in conflicts and honours returned and serving servicemen and women.

The City of Gisborne Cadet Unit takes immense pride in Honouring our Fallen Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and the New Zealand Defence Force.

Every year, the unit contributes a Cenotaph Guard that holds vigil over the Cenotaph during the dawn and civic services. Yes, that's right, our cadets stand on each of the four corners silently and solemnly with the names of the fallen at their backs. A great honour for those chosen and prestigious position to hold.

As being a small community, we have contributed greatly to the various conflicts New Zealand has been involved with. Hence, many cadets that turn to our unit have strong military backgrounds and links.

This is still evident today, as many of our cadets have gone on to serve overseas in areas such as: East Timor, Solomon Islands, Sinai, Afghanistan and lately, Iraq.
