This knowledge is important so that you are able to identify a firearm correctly and understand the legal requirements and laws behind owning and/or handling this specific firearm.

The NZ Police Arms Code (2013) is the primary reference for the types of firearms & legal requirements:

Note 1: In the NZCF we only use .22 Bolt Action Rifles in our standard training.

Note 2: The Arms Code is currently being reviewed and updated in consultation with members of the Firearms Community Advisory Forum and other subject matter experts. A revised version should be available in 2020.
