Hola! I am Melanie Winstead Morton, and I am so excited to be teaching your student Spanish at CAC this year! This is my 4th year at CAC after moving with my family from Memphis, Tennessee, in July of 2019. We have 3 sons that also attend CAC in 4th, 7th, and 10th grades. This school has been such a blessing to us, and we are grateful to be a part of it!
I have been teaching high school Spanish since 2001, and I taught college Spanish as an adjunct professor at Christian Brothers University in Memphis from 2014-2019. I loved Spanish from the moment I stepped into Spanish 1 class my freshman year of high school. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Memphis. I also studied and lived abroad in Spain off and on over a three year period during college and graduate school. I obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching, and later my Education Specialist degree. I have a passion for foreign languages and cultures. I have also studied French, Hebrew, and Mandarin Chinese. I spent 2 weeks studying in Israel and 6 weeks studying in China. I firmly believe that travel provides a special kind of education that surpasses what we can cover in the classroom.
As a world language teacher, my focus is not only getting students to learn about and appreciate other cultures and customs, but to also learn to speak the language. This takes several years of dedication and hard work, but I assure you that we can get there! I served as the AP Spanish teacher at the school where I taught in Memphis, and here at CAC, we are pleased to offer College Spanish via concurrent enrollment with UCA! I aim to help students understand that whether they want to be a doctor, mechanic, or missionary, knowing Spanish will greatly benefit them in their career.
