Welcome to the CMP Carmichael Library!
The purpose of the Carmichael CMP School Library is to provide a space with a range of learning resources to support members of our school community-students, teachers, and families, to gain knowledge and skills for learning and personal development.
We want to provide a vibrant, fun and engaging place that will promote reading, motivate readers, and encourage those who are not yet readers to find something special in the Library-in the hopes that what they will find someday is a gook that will spark their love of reading.

If a student brings a book in for replacement please leave a note with the book in the Library Support Specialists box.
Damaged Book Guide
Students are responsible for taking care of their borrowed Library books. We expect students to keep materials in a dry, clean, safe place. Students are responsible for returning their books each week when they visit the Library. If books become damaged or are lost, students and their families are responsible for replacing the book or paying for the cost of replacing the book.
Class librarians need to examine books as students return them.
Commonly damaged books have things such as water marks, food spills and torn or drawings on pages.
When coming across a damaged book there are two forms to fill out:
Damaged Book Bookmark
Please fill out the Damaged Book Bookmark so that Ms. Amanda has the vital information for circulation records.
Place the bookmark inside the damaged book and place the book inside the book hospital bin near the printer.
Damaged Library Book Notice
Please fill out a damaged Library book notice for the student so that their parents can be notified that they need to replace a book. If the book has significant damage please do not check out an additional book to the student.
If you need assistance please contact Ms. Amanda in the front office.
How to Alphabetize
With the exception of our Non-Fiction all books are in order by the author's last name.
If you have two authors with the same last name you use the authors first name.
Ex: Amy Jones would go before Barbara Jones.
If there are multiple books by the same author you alphabetize by the title of the book.
Ex: Fancy Nancy books are first alphabetized by author’s last name O’Connor. Then the books are shelved in order of book title:
1. Fancy Nancy
2. Fancy Nancy’s Favorite Fancy Words
3. Fancy Nancy Goes Shopping
!!! UNLESS you come across a book series!!! In the case of a book series the books are placed on the shelf by authors last name first, then organized by the order of the book series, not the title of the books.
Ex: A series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, The Hardy Boys, Animal Arc, these are organized in the order of the series.
Non-Fiction Books
Non-Fiction Books are first organized by their call-number (located on the bottom spine of the book).
Books are then organized by authors last name.
If there are a group of books with the same number and same author you then alphabetize by the titles of the books.
How to Block
Blocking is when you have each book lined up with the edge of the shelf, and all books are standing upright with a book end placed and the end of each shelf.
Sometimes there will be a larger book that will stick out past the others, this is ok.

Organize books by similar spine label on the return cart.
Roll the cart through the Library to and place books where they belong!
Remember all books are in alphabetical order or numerical order by their call number.
Books are in order from left to right no each shelf and then from the top shelf to the bottom on each book case.
Books are pulled to the front edge of each shelf
Always remember to leave some room at the end of the shelf!
Never force a book into place.
Make sure that every book is placed neatly on the shelf and that the full shelf is straight.
