Transformative Instruction in Distance Learning

Cabrillo College

Transformative Learning Center (TLC)

Program Overview

Local Peer Online Course Review Program (POCR). The Transformative Learning Center (TLC) offers a one-of-a-kind Transformative Instruction in Distance Learning Program (TIDL). The TIDL program consists of a sequence of three courses. The TIDL Program is partly in response to the requirement for certification for faculty who are teaching online, and partly in response to the integration of best practices around accessibility, student engagement, and culturally relevant teaching. It is also to offer faculty an opportunity to be supported by certified reviewers in fully designing their course. The full program consists of three-course completion as part of the Peer Online Course Review Program (POCR). After the POCR review, courses are badged for outstanding quality and placed in the CVC-OEI Exchange Program

Are you interested in the Full TIDL course design program? Here is the program structure.

The structure of the program is semi-self-paced but the facilitator/led with due dates and feedback to stay on track.  Semi-self paces mean that you will work through the modules on your own and at a certain point s you will submit your work for feedback. The course/s also has due dates (thus semi-self paced) where you can pace yourself, you are not locked out of any particular module but you do have the flexibility to complete the course within the timeframe offered. Extensions are available upon request. You will also receive communications from your facilitator. The course is asynchronous and fully online with no meetings. You may schedule a time to meet your facilitator if you have advanced support questions via Canvas inbox for questions, as well.

Woven through the program curriculum: equity, accessibility, inclusion, culturally responsive and relevant, transformative and sustainable teaching and learning practices. The courses are based on section A-D of the CVC-OEI Rubric.
