Core Subjects

Introduction

The compulsory subjects – Mathematics, English, English Literature, LLW and Religious Studies – are streamed, so pupils will be in the same class for all of these. There are five classes, labelled 11-1 to 11-5 and the College will allocate pupils to classes based on their position in the rank order.

Please note that the 11-1 Class is the Further Maths Class (formerly Add Maths). Pupils in this class do 11 GCSEs. Don’t be put off by that; in order to reduce pressure, all Mathematics pupils have a chance to sit a GCSE Paper at the end of Year 11. Indeed, in a change from previous years, all pupils are taking modules in most subjects in year 11 in order to reduce the examination burden in Year 12. If pupils are good at Maths and would like to be considered for Further Maths, then please choose the Further Maths option in section 4 of the Google form.
