Creative Connections
DENI and DEI are pleased to invite Primary, Post Primary and Special Schools to participate in a new pilot creative partnership programme for children and young people, teachers, creative practitioners and school communities. This could be a chance to explore our culture and traditions here (the Irish language, Ulster-Scots, etc) with a partner school and in a cluster, and to work with an artist. This could suit those schools not yet involved in a Shared Education partnership.
Creative Connections will run in two phases;
Phase 1 runs from February to June 2025 and begins with professional learning events for teachers and creative practitioners which are followed by funded in-school residencies where children and young people, teachers and creative practitioners work in creative partnership.
Phase 2 commences in September 2025 and runs to June 2026. During Phase 2 schools form clusters of schools north and south to create cross border creative learning communities.
The DENI would particularly encourage expressions of interest from schools supporting pupils living in RAISE localities and will endeavour to ensure representation in the programme from all such localities. DEI invite applicants from the border counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Cavan, and Louth.
Burns Night - 25th January 2025
Burns Night is celebrated every year on 25th January in honour of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns.
The Ayrshire poet and lyricist died in 1796, at the age of 37, but he is still regarded as the most prominent poet to have written in the Scots dialect.
His most well-known poems include To a Mouse, Address to the Haggis.
Thanks to Dr Frank Ferguson from Ulster University for sharing this wonderful presentation on Burns Night, with some great tips and ideas for creating your own Burns Celebration!
