What We're Learning This Year:

Reading and Writing:

• We will practice handwriting

• Letter recognition and letter sounds

• Decode words in reading through phonics

• Reading comprehension skills

• We will learn how to write strong sentences. Later, we will use these to begin writing a paragraph.

Math:

• Number sense such as counting forward and backward.

• We will practice fact fluency with numbers up to 20.

• Understanding and solving word problems.

• We will learn many different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.

• Motion, pushing and pulling

• Weather, severe weather, and how sunlight affects earth's surface

Sight Words

They are called "Sight Words" because our goal for your child to recognize these words instantly, at first sight, without sounding them out. Up to 75% of the words used in beginning children’s text are sight words and are seen most often when reading!
