First Grade Skills

What We're Learning This Year:

Reading and Writing:

• We will practice handwriting.

• Decode words in reading through phonics

• We will reading comprehension skills

• We will learn how to write strong sentences. Later, we will use these to write full paragraphs.

Math:

• We will practice adding and subtracting numbers up to 20.

• We will learn different ways (strategies) to solve these problems quickly and correctly.

Science:

• Air and Weather

• Light and Sound

• Plants and animals

Social Studies:
