Reading Ideas for Home
Reading together doesn't have to be fancy, just cozy and consistent! Here are a few easy ways to build reading skills right at home:
🔸Read together every day, even just 10–15 minutes. Bedtime stories count!
🔸Point out letters and words you see out in the world — on signs, cereal boxes, or mail.
🔸Let them "read" the pictures. Retelling a story from the pictures builds comprehension before they can decode words.
🔸Sound out simple words together, and celebrate every try — mistakes are part of learning!
🔸Reread favorite books. Repetition builds confidence and fluency, so don't worry if they want the same book every night.
🔸Talk about what you read. Ask questions like "What do you think will happen next?" or "How do you think they felt?"
🔸Sing songs and play rhyming games. These build the phonemic awareness that's a huge part of early reading.
The goal is simple: help your child fall in love with books. The more fun and pressure-free reading feels, the more excited they'll be to keep growing as a reader.Â
Math Homework (refer to math teacher's website or email for homework)
Our math workbooks will be going home at the beginning of the year. Your child may work on this at their own pace and/or follow along with the modules we are completing in class. They can return their completed workbook at the end of the school year for a special prize!
*Children can also practice iReady at home (I will let you know the times iReady cannot be worked on at home due to diagnostic testing).Â
Friday Folder:
Your child will get a yellow folder. This is their Friday Folder.
It will come home on Friday's.
They need to be returned on Monday's.
Please check this folder every week.
It will have graded papers and important notes and papers from the school.
Please remove any papers before returning it on Monday!
