The Digital Fabrication Studio is an open-access studio located in the Richard and Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center. The equipment in this studio facilitates the realization of digital designs into physical objects though a variety of 2D and 3D processes.

Users are required to complete an online or in-person training before using the equipment in the studio. Trainings are given for each piece of equipment, rather than the space as a whole, and are good for one calendar year from the date the training is completed.
To complete the online trainings and make appointments for in-person sessions, click the button below to enroll in the Makerspace Canvas course then go to Modules and select the module related to the equipment you wish to use.

The Digital Fabrication Studio is open to all authorized Ringling College of Art + Design students and faculty.
Staff may make a written request for special permission from the Vice President for Academic Affairs to use the facilities for a specific project for a specific period of time.
Continuing education students may use the facilities only during their scheduled class times.
Upon arrival at the studio, you will be asked to sign in and your training status will be checked before you begin working.

Users are required to bring their own materials for use in the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, FDM 3D printer, CNC machine, and vacuum former. A small amount of SLA resin is allotted to authorized users. After using this allotment, users must purchase their own resin.

Can I reserve time on the digital fabrication equipment?
At this time, all digital fabrication equipment runs on a first come, first served basis.
How do I get trained to use the equipment?
Go to the Makerspace Canvas Course for online trainings, sign up for an in-person training session, or email us for more information.
Do I need to bring my own materials?
Students must supply their own materials for the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, filament 3D printers, CNC machine, and vacuum former. There may also be scraps available for these machines. Sample materials are available for the resin printers (see resin 3D printer below).

What's this about approved materials?
Some materials are hazardous to equipment or operators when cut or engraved on a laser cutter. A list of approved materials can be found here.

What type of material can I print?
PLA is the default material supported on the FDM 3D printer at this time. PLA filament size must be 1.75mm. Filaments with special additives like wood, metal, or carbon fiber are not approved for use at this time. Please reach out to shop staff if you think you may need to print with another material (PETG, TPU, etc.) or if you have any questions about filament

Do I need to bring my own resin for the SLA printer?
Once users complete the SLA/Resin 3D Printing training, they get an allotment of resin to try resin printing at no cost. Once the allotment is used up, you will be asked to purchase your own resin.
