Getting fit in 2016

Dear CDH Faculty, Staff and Students:

Fitness means different things to different people. As we start off 2016, we all have different self-improvement goals! Some of you are looking to lose weight - GREAT! Some of you need the encouragement to get up and exercise - AWESOME! Some want to learn about cooking / nutrition - WOOHOO (my personal fav)! Some of you want to learn balance - NAMASTE!

I (AnnMarie Froehle) am simply putting together some science-based nutritional information, sites with fabulous recipes, and some exercise information. I AM NOT an expert in any area, but often when I find good info - people say "send it to me". So here it is - info I've collected.

Things I've learned:

1. ALWAYS start the day with a huge glass of water! Your brain thrives on WATER (although you think it's caffeine... it's actually water!) And your kidneys will love you!

2. Keep track of your exercise and nutrition! There are a LOT of apps - I'll be using My Fitness Pal.

3. Remember, this is a start - Not an end! (So is this webpage!) I will keep updating as we go along!

Nutrition

Ever want to know - what are Omega3's? Should I take Calcium/D3? How much protein SHOULD I eat? This site has a wealth of science-backed nutritional information.

Authority Nutrition

and it has 2 ibooks to download with really helpful information on healthy eating!

Nutritional Weight & Wellness

This site has lots of great information, and is LOCAL in St. Paul!! (this particular link goes to kicking your sugar habit!)

Exercise

Have you been to the CDH Fitness Center? Or do you need ideas for something different to do?

CHRIS FREYTAG is amazing! She will help you find exercises to do at home, ways to incorporate healthy foods and a healthy lifestyle into your daily life!

Cooking

Seriously - I LOVE to cook, that's why diet programs aren't for me.. those little soy-based bars.. doesn't keep my interest. So I've found quite a few websites that have really quality nutritional ideas!

1. I realize this is Weight Watchers, but you can pick and choose some really healthy meals! LaaLoosh

2. Hungry Girl (self explanatory)

3. A list of fitness/health blogs from the Huffington Post

4. My fav: Cooking Light (Which also has an app for your ipad)
