Links: ESRI Training: Getting Started with the Geodatabase
Time: The ESRI Training module took me about 2 hours to complete.
Insights: This training emphasized the importance of exploring the details of each new tool I was introduced to, specifically going into the feature classes’ attribute tables and fields. I really enjoyed the mosaic dataset and how it was able to overlay a visual onto the map. It helped me to see how versatile the ArcGIS software is, and it gave me a glimpse into how many ways the data can be manipulated depending on what you’re trying to show and learn from it. I’m excited to implement this visualization technique to more projects moving forward.
Issues: I still haven’t been able to upgrade my system, so I spend more time than I’d like waiting for the program to be able to run some processes. I also am having difficulty understanding some of the terms, so I’ll need to spend more time going over the material to increase that familiarity.
New Processes used or learned in this professional training:
· Week 1: Utilize the language of spatial analysis and apply to a thematic map.
· Week 2: Creating a geodatabase, feature classes, and attribute fields.
This training was an opportunity to become more familiar with some of the terms and specific language of spatial analysis, which helped me to understand what I was doing when creating the geodatabase and feature classes. Exploring the attribute fields really helped me to see each step of the process as it was happening, and how the different types of data could be input into the project.
