Mike Burton

My name is Mike Burton and will be helping with the Byron Softball program this year.  I have been involved in baseball and softball my entire life; everything from T-ball to baseball to fastpitch softball.  Softball runs in my family’s blood.  Growing up, my dad played both slow-pitch and fastpitch softball and was the Varsity Head Coach at Kasson Mantorville High School.  As we got older, my brother, Josh (you may know him as Mr. Burton at Byron High School), joined him in playing.

Prior to joining the staff at Byron, I spent 9 years coaching at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) where I specialized in working with catchers and infielders and was the Recruiting Coordinator for my final 4 years.  Before RCTC, I was the Assistant Coach at Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN for 3 years.

I attended college and played Baseball at Vermillion Community College and earned a degree in Law Enforcement.  Shortly after, I attended Upper Iowa University, while working full-time, and received a degree in Public Safety Administration.  Currently, I work for the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office in their Emergency Management Division, working with Communications and Severe Weather Operations.

I moved to Byron in 2021 with my wife Jill with our daughters Sydney (3rd Grade), Lilly (2nd Grade), grandson Easton (Pre-K) and 2 dogs: Luna and Bella.  You may catch us out and about with all our kids’ activities, feel free to say hi!  I look forward to working with all the student athletes at Byron Schools!
