2020 Winter Issue

A Brief Note from The Canvas Team

When editing The Canvas, we never know what to expect. This issue, we were so excited to get so many submissions on a variety of topics. This issue is a very exciting one, as it is the first issue of the 2020-2021 school year, and now we get to share the work of Byram with you.

Since we had many submissions this cycle, you'll notice that unlike past issues, we've divided this issue into four themes. In "Our World Today," you'll find powerful photographs by Samantha Milewicz and even Mrs. Nardone, moving essays on how the writers have reassessed their lives thanks to the pandemic, and an incredible short story. In "A Walk in Nature", you'll find gorgeous photographs featuring a deeper look at nature. Photos by Markian Nychka capture the magic that is nature. In "Nothing is as it seems" you'll see photographs that challenge your perception and have an almost otherworldly quality to them as well as a stirring poem by Arielle Goldman. Finally, in "Into the Darkness" you'll see photographs and read poems that venture into the realm of horror and mystery in the best possible way.

What we editors also love about The Canvas, is that you can read it at your own leisure whether it be over a cup of hot tea in the evening, or piece by piece on a chilly winter afternoon. We sincerely hope that you love this issue as much as we do and we cannot wait for the Spring Issue.

Please enjoy!
