Small group counseling is an imperative piece of a school counselor's role within the school. Groups allows students to work more closely with a counselor and peers to work on a variety of skills and/or concerns. Groups are organized and led based on student needs. Students may be referred to groups by a parent, teacher, or themselves. Small groups are usually held during recess times to ensure students are in the classroom during academic time. Because we recognize the importance of play, groups usually meet for 30 minutes once each rotation and usually run six to eight weeks.

Family Change
Banana Splits: Students will learn about different kinds of families, recognizing, accepting and sharing feelings, appropriate ways of expressing uncomfortable feelings, and positive coping strategies for life stressors/changes.
Friendship
The Crayon Box: Making friends is truly an art. The goal of this group is for students to strengthen their ability to form meaningful relationships with peers. To facilitate this, students will learn behaviors that help kids make and keep friends, resolving conflicts, and practice these skills through cooperative activities.
Impulse Control
Zones Patrol: Students will continue working with the Zones of Regulation curriculum and learn to recognize impulses and feelings, and appropriate ways to manage their actions, emotions and thoughts.
Coping Skills
Worry Warriors: This group helps students learn about anxiety's effects on the body and effective coping strategies to better manage worry and anxiety.
Family Change
Changing Families: Students will learn about different kinds of families, recognizing, accepting and sharing feelings, appropriate ways of expressing uncomfortable feelings, and positive coping strategies for life stressors/changes.

Hawk Squad: Students' goals is to strengthen their ability to form meaningful relationships with peers. To facilitate this, students will learn behaviors that help kids make and keep friends, resolving conflicts, and practice these skills through cooperative activities.

Zones Academy: Students will continue working with the Zones of Regulation curriculum and learn to recognize impulses and feelings, and appropriate ways to manage their actions, emotions and thoughts.
Self-Esteem
Knights in Shining Armor OR You Grow Girl! The purpose of these groups is to promote self-esteem. Students will discuss their strengths, identify positive activities, and practice challenging negative thoughts.
