Meet the Science Team

Mrs Willis

About Me…

I am Mrs Willis, Head of Science at Bullers Wood School for Boys. I taught science at Bullers Wood School for Girls for 6 years, for 4 of these years I was Key Stage 4 Coordinator. I graduated from King’s College London with a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology and after spending 8 years working in banking and finance and a further 7 years in the criminal law sector I decided to reignite my love for science and so trained as a teacher of science.

As a science teacher, I enjoy sharing my passion for my subject with young people, enabling students the opportunity to inquire and be curious about the science that surrounds them. Whether it be the biological processes that happen without conscious thought, understanding why the materials that we use daily have the useful properties they do or how and why objects move and interact with one another. The realms of science are so broad, almost limitless, I challenge any young person not to be able to find an aspect of science that fires their interest and imagination!

Outside of teaching, I enjoy sport, particularly running – in 2017 I fulfilled a childhood desire to run the London Marathon and am now cycling more as both my children are keen cyclists. I very much enjoy reading when the opportunity arises, particularly fiction set in the Middle or Far East.

Miss Brown

I am Miss Brown, teacher of science at Bullers Wood School for Boys. I graduated in 2005 from Blackburn College (located in Carlinville, Illinois) with a degree in biology with secondary education and a minor maths. Prior to moving to England in 2007, I taught for two years in the USA, 1 year as a maths teacher and 1 year as a science teacher. I have been teaching science in England for 13 years, and I have held the roles of Key Stage 3 Curriculum Coordinator and 2nd in Charge of Science during my career as science teacher. In addition to teaching, I also served as an external examiner for Edexcel.

As a science teacher, my mission is to provide all pupils with the opportunity to question, investigate, develop and ultimately succeed by building a community of inquisitive learners and scientific enquirers. This mission can be split into two key targets. The first target is, to promote a passion for science in all pupils and fire their curiosity by guiding them using interesting and purposeful lessons, activities and experiences. Therefore, pupils will understand how the science they learn in the classroom fits into their everyday lives and how they can use what they learn in future study or careers. The second target is to develop pupils into independent enquirers with the ability to generate their own questions, investigate scientifically and draw conclusions. They should be able to work collaboratively and should be reflective and confident in applying ideas to new scenarios to solve problems effectively.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy travelling to various destinations with my husband. In my free time, I also enjoy knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking and calligraphy.

Mr Cleveland

I am Mr Cleveland, a science teacher at Bullers Wood School for boys. I have just completed my training year where I spent time at Bullers Wood school for Girls. I graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and worked as a personal trainer across multiple gyms for 3 years before coming into teaching.

I believe that learning science should be practical based. I want my students to be curious and ask questions about everything they are doing as any good scientist would! Science is a vast subject where limitless knowledge can be gained. There is something to peak the interest of every student, whether that is how our body works, nature and the environment or space exploration. There is something for everyone and it is my challenge to find at least one aspect of science that captures the interest of each and every student!

Outside of science, I am a very sporty person. I enjoy team sports such as football and cricket as well going on a bike ride. I am also not too bad in the kitchen. I mean who doesn’t enjoy homemade cookies!!

Miss Robins

Welcome to Bullers Wood School for Boys. My name is Miss Robins and I’m the Head of Year 8 and also a Science and PE teacher.

I’ve been a teacher for 15 years and a Head of Year in two different schools for 12 years – there isn’t much that children do that I’ve not encountered on my journey as a teacher! I really love my job – part of that comes from helping children to learn, but another part of it is watching my students grow and develop as people and this is often the most rewarding aspect for me. I feel it’s very important that all of our students work as a team to support each other Whether it is in friendship groups, form groups or year groups – knowing that you have friends by your side, and that you can be a good friend to others can give you huge confidence.

In my spare time I enjoy running and belong to a local running club. I also lead an extra-curricular running club for the boys here at school. I was due to run the London Marathon in April, but it was postponed until next year which means I’ve got extra time to train! I’ve just taken up cycling and have been enjoying getting out into the countryside to explore on my bike.

Another of my passions is supporting Bromley FC – they are Bullers Wood’s local non-league football club and we have a great relationship with them. Their manager and some of their players have been in to take assemblies and they really enjoy seeing our Bullers Wood boys and their families at matches. We are also lucky enough to be given lots of free tickets to go and watch them, so I hope see lots of you down at Hayes Lane during the season!

Mr Davis

My name is Mr Davis and I am a Teacher of Science at Bullers Wood School for Boys.

I graduated from the University of Sussex with a degree (Bsc) in Medicinal Chemistry and completed my masters (MSc) in Toxicology and Experimental Pathology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School.

After spending 10 years in retail management I decided to return to my first love of science. I have now been a teacher for 16 years specialising in all three core sciences and have held various positions in middle leadership.

While bringing my passion for science to life during lessons, I also aim to bring a passion for learning and self-improvement to my lessons so that the students at BWSfB can become the best versions of themselves.

Outside of teaching I am a voracious reader of all literature but have a passion for philosophy, psychology and educational research.

Mrs Daniels

I am Mrs Daniels, science technician. My role is to support the teaching of science by preparing and setting up equipment for practical lessons, as well as other general support. The first two years for Bullers Wood School for Boys have been eventful, to say the least, but also exciting as we grow & develop; this has mirrored my own experience as a technician. I look forward to moving into our permanent building in 2021, where the enhanced facilities should bring greater opportunities for practical work.

Mr Griffin

My name is Mr Griffin and I have been at BWS Boys since September 2021. I have been teaching (and training) in secondary schools from 2016 and full time since 2018. I am a family man with 2 young adult children and a third in year 8. I love teaching young people and particularly enjoy science. In another life I was a research scientist and spent a good few years trying to develop cures for various cancers.

I hope that my passion for science as a tool for discovery and of good for all people, will be translated in the classroom and drive enthusiasm for the subject in these young men.

Miss Bealing

My name is Miss Bealing and I joined Bullers Wood School for Boys in 2021 having spent 3 years at Bullers Wood Girls school.

After graduating from the University of Portsmouth with a Sport and Exercise Science degree I began studying to become a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist. I completed by Masters’ at Greenwich university and then Portsmouth University, however, after many years of studying I was drawn back to my original love of biology and chemistry and begun training to become a science teacher.

As a science teacher it is my mission to instill a love for science in all pupils by making it as practical and relatable as possible. I enjoy making pupils curious about science by providing them with real life context through interactive and purposeful lessons.

Outside of work I play and coach netball, and enjoying watching most sports. I love travelling the world and living out of a backpack. I was fortunate enough to spend half a year travelling around Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
