Activities:

matching game

Rhyming Matching Game

For this activity the students will use the book to find matching rhyming words and complete the attached worksheet. For the worksheet, the students will illustrate the rhyming word on the left hand side of the table, that matches with the one on the right. The students then can cut the boxes out (or ask an adult to) and play a matching game with them. Flashcards or scrap pieces of paper can be used to create matching game as well.

This gives students the opportunity to reinforce and review common rhyming words used in the book.

Snowmaking STEAM Activity

For this activity, students can create their own snow. This fun experiment allows students to learn the importance of snow and many other types of water on earth while creating it in their hands.

This gives the students the opportunity to use the kinesthetic learning style and their creativity.

*Always ask an adult for help before starting any activity.

Moldable Snow

By mixing baking soda and hair conditioner or shaving cream, a fake snow that can be played with and easily cleaned up is created.

Snowstorm in a Jar

Using a jar, baby oil, glitter (optional), white paint, and an alka seltzer tab you can create a “Snowstorm in a jar”.

Create a Page Storytelling Activity

For this activity, students will create a new page to go into the book. The students must create two sentences including rhyming words as well as an illustration to go with their page.

Example: There was a cold lady who swallowed a boat. I think a coat would be easier than a boat.

This activity allows students to use their creativity and english language arts skills to write their own page in the story.
