There are several more standards include in the Performance standards. I will add my reflections underneath them.
2. Performance Standards:
2.1 Supports the effective integration of technology throughout all areas of the school’s curriculum as delineated in Vermont’s Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities. Specifically, the educator:
2.1.1. 2.1.4. Developing Professional Learning
2.1.1.1. Contributes to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students by advocating for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the digital learning plan
I have been a member of our schools technology committee for the past several years and I have contributed to the development, communication and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students. I feel that I have also performed this standard in our group project of creating our ideal school. Although the school is not an actual school, it appears by our website that it serves every part of this standard. Our Vision of a Perfect School
2.1.3. Digital Age Learning Environments
2.1.3.1. Collaborate with teachers and model the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and collaborative learning networks to support and extend student learning as well as expand opportunities and choices for online professional development for teachers, administrators, and staff
I have been modeling for the past eight years the use of technology in the classroom. I have had the opportunity to teach the staff how to integrate Google Classroom into their curriculum and most were very excited about the idea. I feel that I have a wealth of digital content to share and even more collaborative learning networks to pass on. I have not yet had an opportunity to host an actual professional development for teachers and administrators on a official basis but I hope that will come in the near future.
2.1.3.2. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning and are compatible with the school technology infrastructure
As part of the technology committee I have had the experience of looking at digital tools and resources and decide what is best for our students and district. We recently decided it was time to go 1:1 with Chromebooks hoping this will give all students access to technology. Again, with access there needs to be intent and that is where I will help chose the right technologies to align with the curriculum.
2.1.3.4. Troubleshoot basic technology problems common in digital learning environments
In my experience as the Library Media Specialist I am more than capable of troubleshooting basic technology problems in the digital learning environments. My favorite?? "Try turning it off and back on again." Nobody ever seems to think of that because they get so caught up in the frustration of the technology not working.
2.1.4. Developing Professional Learning
2.1.4.1. Design, develop, and implement technology-rich professional learning programs that model principles of adult learning and promote digital age best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment
2.1.5. Digital Citizenship
2.1.5.1. Model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access and ethical use of digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers
I am extremely passionate about Digital Citizenship. I have been teaching this to students for some time now. I recently launched a "Change Project" in our High School encouraging students to use Instagram to celebrate, collaborate and appreciate each other. You can watch the "pitch" to this project here Vision Change Project . I believe that every student needs to learn the proper etiquette when leaving a digital footprint. I feel like they were to given the correct tools to communicate online. I am trying to provide them with the tools they need.
