During my eight years as a Library Media Specialist, my course Leadership & Technology, and my Assessment & Technology course I have learned a great deal. Looking at the knowledge standards I can say with absolute certainty that I have knowledge of the topics, concepts, and skills essential to the effective integration of technology. I understand the history and significance of educational technologies. I understand how important it is to chose technology based on the requirements of the lesson, technology with intent. I also understand that cultural diversity can greatly impact student access to computers. I also understand that the intended use of computers is important. The change process in any type is always difficult. Strategies that I have learned derive not only from my own experiences but from suggestions in the book Switch by the Heath Brothers. Excellent read. In order for a successful change to happen you must "Motivate the Elephant" (the feelings behind the change) and "Direct the Rider" (the logic behind the change). They explain that by also "Shaping the Path" (showing the audience the exact direction) and by "Herding the crowd" (getting people on board), any change is possible. In order to be a good leader you must follow steps such as these to make a sustainable change. Please take a look at my "destination postcard" about setting a clear path for our students. I have gained a great amount of knowledge in terms of current trends, effective educational technologies, pedagogies in online learning. For the past several months I have at all times at least 30 tabs open on my computer. I have several platforms to chose from for any type of online learning. I have platforms for assessment such as NearPod, Screencastify and Flipgrid. I have platforms for online collaboration such as VoiceThread, Google Docs, and Trello and I also have building and curating sites such as Tweetdeck, Diigo and Wakelet. The use of online technologies is practically endless. These sites that I have mentioned are just a handful of the many I have learned.
The links below are from my online curation collection.
I would also like to include because I mentioned VoiceThread and Google Docs a few examples of the work we've done with them this semester. Below is a link to a VoiceThread project that I created about change. I will also include this project under Performance Standards because it is also about vision.
As an example of a collaborative project using Google Docs, I invite you to look at the link below. This was a Google Doc created for the purpose of communicating with group members about a vision project we were to do collaboratively online. This was a great challenge not knowing any of the players personally, but with the help of technology and primarily this Google Document we were able to create quite the project. I have shared this project under performance standards.
