The Quizzes AU takes place on a planet named Sepitania. After the Great Divide, Sepitania split into three separate nations; Ashkryth, Grimshade, and Virelia; and time started at 0 great divide (gd). In 195 gd magic was hidden by a great mountain range, creating a fourth nation, Elarion. Finally, in 617 gd another nation was formed to balance knowledge with emotion, Krusselium.
Meet the nations below!
The world still exists in shambles, but there lies a hope to make Sepitania whole again. There exists a prophecy which has been passed down through the generations of each nation.
One from each of the five,
Must come together to revive.
Without one from all,
There is no end to the brawl.
Gather under the red moon,
At the opposite of noon.
Stand around the divine lake,
Greet the end of the world's wake.
According to legend, the Moon Goddess, Siluna, created Elarion. Over time, powerful magic wielders gathered and formed the Circle of Arcane Elders to protect the balance between nature and magic. Elarion was quite the presence until a dark mage arose and the War of Shadows preceded. An outsider from Ashkryth, Winona, learned the ways of Elarion and began the War of Shadows. She believed nature and magic should bend to the will of the people and the Circle of Arcane Elders was withholding that power. The War of Shadows began in 148 gd and went on for 47 years before the Elders were able to harness the natural world to steal and lock Winona’s soul in the Brightrock Mountain Range surrounding all of Elarion. The Circle of Arcane Elders then decided to recede from the world to guard their magic and mythical heritage in 195 gd.
Grimshade is located on an island in the middle of the Misty Waves. Grimshade grew as a nation built on fishing and sailing, but they stopped going to the mainland once they were deceived. They would trade with Ashkryth and Virelia for resources as well as provide their services to transport goods. When Ashkryth started their civil war, Grimshade was poisoned by a plague in 382 gd. Once the traders returned to the island, the plague quickly spread throughout the entire island. Barely anyone was able to develop an immunity. The first to do so was Elias Thorne. He used his immunity to make himself viewed as a god. He would require people to tell him a secret for him to bless them with immunity. The deeper the secret, the stronger the immunity. Of course, he had no power, but the people of Grimshade were desperate. Those who survived were unaware the people who died had made the same deal. Those who died thought their secret just wasn't strong enough. The people demanded equality, but Elias Thorne didn't want to give up his power. He hid in the shadows and became a puppeteer. He claimed to have a democracy built, the Anonymous Council, but he controlled every movement of the council indirectly and secretly. The Thorne family now unknowingly controls all of Grimshade. Ever since that fateful day of plague, Grimshade has decided to no longer trust those outside of their island. The citizens who are clever enough know to not trust those on the island either.
In 439 gd the Virelia known today was born from a bloody political coup overthrowing a corrupt monarchy. In the following years, Virelia attempted to take the democratic route which quickly delved into chaos. The violence continued for 7 years before a covert group called the Shadow Cabinet stabilized the nation by using Oren Mendez as a figurehead. As time passes, the Shadow Cabinet members choose the smartest people of Virelia to be their successors. Every 7 years, a new president gets “voted” in. In reality, the Shadow Cabinet controls who become candidates to get voted for based on “requirements” and the most malleable person gets chosen to receive the majority. During those 7 years, Virelia grew as a nation built on influence not through armies, but through blackmail, infiltration, and manipulation.
Krusselium was originally part of Ashkryth. The city of Evermore is the most intelligent city in all of Askryth, and they developed the ability to travel into space in 569 gd. 48 years later, 617 gd, people from every part of Ashkryth signed up to get to go as the first colony in space. Families would go up together looking for a new life not knowing they would never come back to their world. The space station was the first successful deep space colonization effort, but contact was lost, resulting in all of Ashkryth believing the space station was lost. Collectively, Ashkryth decided the best way to honor the lives lost was to leave space as unknown. Meanwhile, the colony became self-sufficient and started growing as alien species would connect their ships to the colony. Together a council was made known as The Federation. The original Ashkrythians on the ship wanted to return home to let the world know everything, but when they returned they were horrified to see the devastation of Ashkryth, caused by their own people in 793 gd. The Federation decided they were better off on their own and the colony became the nation of Krusselium. Krusselium stopped growing once the neighboring planets in their system joined except one planet, Axiom. The planet of Axiom is entirely composed of AI. The AI struggled with trusting biologicals due to being used as slaves by the original biologicals on their planet. Once a bio-agent was released on Axiom, all that remained were the Mec’cas, the AIs. The Mec’cas originally planned to wipe out Krusselium, but once they realized The Federation was an intelligent group, composed of many species treated equally, they decided to join. At 802 gd the Nexus Accord was officially signed. This treaty gave the Mec'cas a seat, held by K9, on the newly named, Nexus Council.
Ashkryth used to be a thriving nation until the four major cities; Naraud, Solaris, Evermore, and Wemonia; turned on each other. Each city wanted more resources for less from the others, but the cities kept increasing their prices, wrecking the economy. The leaders of each city decided they would take the resources they needed with force. The nation then descended into chaos, civil war, and rebellion starting in 764 gd. For 108 years, blood was being spilled pointlessly, passed on through generations of Ashkrythians. Until one generation decided to end it all and make peace in 872 gd, but the damage was done. The once beautiful and flourishing nation is in ruins and still each clan blames the others. The individual cities continue to refuse to trade and work together, but none of them dare to repeat their ancestor’s mistakes.
