a notebook:  spiral bound or composition-style are fine

a folder, for handouts, scored tests, etc (if using a notebook)

pencils  (don't do geometry in pen -- mistakes are part of learning math)

charged laptop (and charger if not confident in the battery)

straight-edge (a ruler or taped index card will do)

scientific calculator.  Texas Instruments 30 series (TI-30, -34, -36) and Casio FX series are common.  The TI-30XIIS and Casio FS-300ES are good affordable options.  I recommend against the Casio FX-260's. Graphing calculators are fine, but not necessary.  Cell phones cannot be used as calculators in class, or on tests.
