What Is Digital Art?

In Digital Art, students create personal art pieces that combine the elements of art with the influence of important current and historical artists. They use our Mac Apple lab and Adobe Photoshop to build and hone their creative and technological skills. This is a great opportunity for students to jumpstart a career in digital media.

The Learning Journey

Students take a journey of self-expression while they learn the tools professional graphic designers use today. The semester progresses through projects of increasing complexity:

• Kaleidoscope — Students start with a project focusing on skills they know well

• Cultural Projects — Smaller projects like Papel Picado or Sugar Skulls that celebrate different artistic traditions

• Advanced Work — Projects like the Wiley Portrait that require both technical skill and deep self-reflection to express personal meaning

About Our Student Artists

All the artwork on this website was created by 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Most had no previous experience with Adobe Photoshop before taking this class—yet look at what they've accomplished!

Meet the Teacher

Digital Art Teacher Gabrielle Fuqua became an educator after 20 years in marketing. She followed her passion for community work and digital art, and she truly enjoys connecting with her students. She especially loves giving students a place to find and express their voices.
