Advanced Orchestra is for 7th and 8th grade students who played a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) for at least two years. Intermediate Orchestra students who have played for at least two years are eligible to learn the Advanced Orchestra music and play on their concerts.

Students in Advanced Orchestra meet every school day during the year.

There are two concerts each year in December and May

Both evening concerts begin at 6 pm with students arriving at 5:30 pm.
Students need to wear a nice, black shirt and black bottoms.

Solo Project: During the fall semester, students will learn solo repertoire as a class and can individually level up. Presentations will occur during class.

Small Ensemble Project: During the spring semester, students will be guided toward small groups and then choose their own music. Students will get eight to ten class periods to rehearse their music before the final presentation. Presentations will occur during class in the spring.

Fall Meadowlark Lock-in (September in even years): Students in 7/8 band, orchestra, and choir will have an amazing night of rehearsals, sectionals, recreational activities, and lots of social bonding time! This is an optional after-school lock-in that takes place on a Friday for 4 - 5 hours.

Fall Meadowlark Music Camp to YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park (September in odd years): Students in 7/8 band, orchestra, and choir will have an amazing two days of rehearsals, sectionals, recreational activities, and lots of social bonding time at the YMCA of the Rockies. This is an optional overnight field trip!

Performance for K-4 LCs--required (December): Students in 7/8 band, orchestra, and choir play a few pieces for the K-4 Learning Communities. This is a great way for us to share our music with others in the school as well as help the younger students see what music possibilities are available for them to join when they get older.

Elitch Gardens Festival Performance--required (May): Students in 7/8 band, orchestra, and choir play a few pieces for a judge and are graded on their performance. They also receive constructive feedback from the judge to expand their learning. The group receives a plaque for their performance that gets to hang up at Meadowlark.

Elitch Gardens Festival Field Trip (May): As part of the 7/8 performance for the judge, students get to spend a whole day at Elitch Gardens Theme Park celebrating all of their hard work.

Supplies Needed
It is NOT recommended to purchase an instrument during the first few years. The two big reasons are 1) a purchased instrument does not come with an option for accident insurance and 2) you will get a MUCH high quality instrument if renting.
- Shoulder rest (Violin and Viola students only)
- Endpin stopper (Cello and Bass students only)
- 1-2 Pencils (store in instrument case or binder)
- 1/2" 3-ring binder OR folder for holding music
- Rosin--> comes with rental
OPTIONAL: Get a great tuner that also has a metronome built-in here.
