Books On Display

When visiting  our library you will find books on display in the front entrance that are about people, subjects or topics connected to the following themes. These months are NOT the only times we share these books. 

Books connected to the following monthly themes are shared throughout the year, not only during these months.

September - October

This month is National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time, we celebrate the culture and origin of Latinos and Hispanic Americans in the United States. Talk with your child books they are checking out in the library. Who and what are they learning about?

October

This month is LGBT+ Month. LGBT History Month celebrates the achievements of 31 lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender Icons. Which LGBTQ+ icon did you learn about?

November

November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.

December

This month there will be books about winter and various winter holidays.

January

This month there will be books about Martin Luther King, Jr. and other great books about events, activists and leaders from The Civil Rights Movement. Other activists from the past and present will also be highlighted.

February

Black History Month : Talk with your child books they are checking out in the library. Who and what are they learning about? Why is it important to learn about and CELEBRATE your own culture and other cultures too? Learning about others who are different from you can help build empathy and compassion.

March

This month there will be books that will focus on Women's History Month. Ask your child to share with you the books they are reading or seeing about women who have made a difference for our world.

April

This month is National Poetry Month, a time to celebrate the power of words and how to combine them into a style of poem. Talk with your students about what they are learning in regards to poetry:

May

May is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the contributions, experiences, achievements, and perspectives of Asians and Pacific Islanders. Talk with your student about the connections they have with the people they are learning about. What did the learn?
