THE WINTER GRIND
WHAT YOUR ATHLETE IS GOING THROUGH
At the beginning of the year and each season, the principle of "Creating difficult situations in safe environments for your players to persevere" is evident now. The heart of winter is often the toughest stretch for our high school Christian student-athletes. This season requires more than just talent and hard work; it demands discipline, perseverance, and faith.
What the Winter Grind Looks Like:
Early mornings and late nights in cold gyms and on dark fields
Time away from friends and family due to practices, matches, and games
Physical, emotional, and mental fatigue
Balancing athletics, academics, and a growing relationship with Jesus
What It’s Building:
Resilience and commitment
Strong time management and accountability
Dependence on Christ during challenging moments
Character that extends beyond sports
Parents, your support and prayers matter deeply during this season. This journey is shaping who your young person is becoming, not just how they perform.
“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9

BVCS Strength and Conditioning: Weight Room
Strength & Conditioning Program – Introduction & Policy
Big Valley Christian School Athletics is excited to share the launch of our Strength & Conditioning Program under the leadership of our new Strength and Conditioning Coach, Charles Hoffman. This program is designed to support and serve our student-athletes at every stage, meeting them where they are and helping them grow in strength, confidence, and healthy training habits.
Our Strength & Conditioning Coach will work closely with:
Ø Seniors who have completed their high school athletic careers, helping them transition into lifelong fitness and prepare for the physical demands of college, work, military service, or everyday life.
Ø Students who are not currently participating in a school sport, providing structure, accountability, and an opportunity to stay active and build a strong foundation.
Ø In-season athletic teams, offering carefully designed weight-training programs that support performance while emphasizing recovery, balance, and injury prevention.
This program exists to partner with families and coaches in developing student-athletes who care for their bodies, work hard, and honor Christ through discipline, effort, and integrity.
The purpose of the Strength & Conditioning Program is to:
1. Help student-athletes safely build strength, mobility, and overall fitness
2. Support athletic performance while reducing the risk of injury
3. Provide consistent, age-appropriate instruction in proper lifting technique
4. Encourage discipline, confidence, and healthy lifelong fitness habits
The program is open to:
Ø Current BVCS Christian-Student-Athletes who have identified as a participant in a current year season of high school athletics
Ø BVCS students who are currently rostered on a sports team
Ø BVCS athletic teams during their competitive seasons
Participation may require approval from the Athletic Director and/or Head Coach to ensure the program best supports each student’s needs.
· Program Hours:
Monday-Thursday
3:00 PM – 5:30 PM: After school
· Team Training Times: Each team will be assigned specific time slots
· Communication: Head coaches will share training schedules directly with athletes and families
We ask that athletes arrive on time, ready to train, and remain for the full session.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with our families in developing strong, healthy, and disciplined student-athletes. This Strength & Conditioning Program reflects our commitment to excellence, care, and Christ-centered growth in every area of our athletic program.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
