This Week in Athletics
FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S DESK:
New Light, New Season
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.— Galatians 6:9
As the clocks fall back and the days grow shorter, we’re reminded that seasons are always changing. The early sunsets and crisp mornings mark the start of a new chapter — winter sports season. Whether it’s basketball echoing through the gym, soccer on the frosty dew in the fields, or wrestling’s hot gym, there’s a renewed energy and purpose in the air.
Daylight Saving Time reminds us that time itself is a gift — a rhythm God designed. Just as we adjust our clocks, God sometimes calls us to change our focus. Shorter days can feel limiting, but they can also encourage us to lean into the Light that never fades — Jesus Christ.
In this new sports season, athletes and families are invited to shift their mindset just as the time shifts. The longer practices, the early mornings, the teamwork — all of it shapes not just skill, but character. Every drill, every sprint, every game is a chance to honor God with our effort, attitude, and integrity.
As many athletes change sports and “fall back” into a season of preparation and perseverance, let’s also fall forward into faith — trusting that God is at work in every new beginning. The clock may turn back, but our hearts move forward, ready for what He will do in and through our athletes this season.
Please pray:
“Lord, thank You for the gift of new seasons. As we begin this winter sports season, help us to use our time well — to compete with integrity, to encourage others, and to reflect Your light even when the days feel short. May our actions bring You glory in every practice and every game. Amen.”

Playing in HIS name,
Coach Drew Snelgrove, M.Ed., CAA
As the fall season comes to a close, our Big Valley Christian athletes are on the move! The Varsity Girls Volleyball team is charging through the playoffs as the #1 seed. At the same time, our Cross Country runners recently competed in the Mother Lode League Finals, showing endurance and determination every step of the way and advancing to the next level of Sub Sections. Meanwhile, Football is preparing for a Bowl Game on November 7th, with more exciting details to come.
It’s a blessing to see our student-athletes rise to the occasion — not only in their performance but in the character and faith they display along the way. Each team’s success reflects months of commitment, discipline, and teamwork. From early-morning practices and pushing through injuries to late-night study sessions, our Lions continue to honor God through their effort and attitude.
As we celebrate this season of playoffs and perseverance, let’s remember that true success is more than trophies and titles — it’s about giving our best in every opportunity and doing it with integrity and heart.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
— Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
May our athletes continue to compete with passion, pursue excellence, and represent Big Valley Christian with grace and gratitude — here, there, and everywhere!
Go Lions!

Co-Athlete of the Week:
Malachi Arnold
This week, we’re celebrating Malachi Arnold, a Junior for our Cross Country Team. Malachi Arnold continues to impress with his determination and steady progress this season. Competing in the Mother Lode League Finals, Malachi delivered an outstanding performance, earning a 7th-place finish and securing a spot among the top 10 runners in a highly competitive field.
His hard work and discipline throughout the season are paying off as he now turns his focus toward the CIF Sac-Joaquin Sub-Sectionals, where he aims to take another step forward. Malachi’s drive and commitment to improvement reflect the heart of a true student-athlete — one who not only competes with excellence but also represents Big Valley Christian with humility and perseverance.

Co-Athlete of the Week:
Jeremie Jourdan
As the regular season came to a close, Big Valley Christian’s football team witnessed a breakout performance that embodied grit, heart, and determination. Senior running back Jeremie Jourdan delivered a statement game, rushing for over 200 yards while anchoring the Lions’ defense with hard-hitting plays that set the tone for the night.
Jeremie’s performance was more than just impressive stats; it was a reflection of his relentless work ethic and leadership on and off the field. Each carry showed his power and patience, breaking through tackles and finding extra yards when it mattered most. Defensively, his presence had an equally impactful effect — fearless, physical, and focused.
With that kind of energy, the Lions now turn their eyes to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs, where they’ll compete in a Bowl Game. Jeremie’s breakout game couldn’t have come at a better time, fueling the team’s confidence as they prepare for postseason play.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school.
