You will click on the following links to read about Colorado's Homesteaders. Please fill out the Settlers Note Catchers and glue them into your interactive notebook as you go through this WebQuest.
You'll need to click on all of the links provided. Be sure to watch each video. Keep it at a manageable volume that is not too loud for your classmates.

Task 1:
Colorado has a long and interesting history. In the early 1800s, European-American settlers started arriving in the area, attracted by the fertile land and natural resources.
In 1858, gold was discovered in the Rocky Mountains. This led to a rush of prospectors and settlers coming to the region. They established mining camps and towns, eventually becoming the Colorado Territory in 1861.
For this task, you will print out your notes page and write down the big ideas you read about. You will use this information to write your paper.

Learn more about Westward expansion and the belief that the United States was destined to expand across North America and spread democracy and capitalism. Take notes about the big ideas in the videos. You will use these notes to write your paper.

Task 3:
Participating in a simulation will help you learn about the journey people took to make a better life for themselves. While you do the simulation, you will write down several different things, so be sure to print out the attached paperwork.

Task 4:
Let's learn how Colorado became a territory and then a state. Starting the Colorado Territory was a big job. President Abraham Lincoln made William Gilpin the first governor. Click on the links to learn how Colorado went from territory to state. Use your note catcher to take notes.

RAFT Writing Activity. Print out or open up the RAFT guide. Follow the directions in the guide. Write your piece in your Interactive Notebook. Write neatly and edit your work.

Based on what you have learned about the Settlers and their life coming to Colorado, fill out the cause-and-effect guide. Glue it into your Interactive Notebook.
Task 8:
Write your paper about the Settlers who came to Colorado based on the criteria in the form. You will do this individually, and your paper must be typed. Click on the form to print it out.
Task 9:
Present your information to the class! You can do this in several ways. Choose one of the options on the choice board below. There is one non-negotiable that you MUST do. That is to create a timeline of the settlers in Colorado. You will add this to the main timeline in the class.
