You will click on the following links to read about Colorado's Explorers. Fill out the Explorer Note Catchers and glue them into your interactive notebook as you go through this webquest.
You must click on all of the links provided. Be sure to watch each video. Keep it at a manageable volume that is not too loud for your classmates.
Share your computer with 2-3 people. Take turns reading the information.
You can print off any of the articles if you do not want to read on the computer.
Task 1:
American Indians lived for thousands of years in the place we call Colorado. They also lived throughout the rest of North and South America. As many people lived in the Americas as lived in other parts of the world. But for a long time, people in other parts of the world did not know these lands even existed.
New people came from far across the ocean. Spain, France, and England sent men to learn about the land. Explorers traveled to new lands to explore and claim them.

Task 2:
Before you can know about the first explorers in Colorado, you need to know a little history about how people were able to explore and know about it. Please watch the video about the Louisiana Purchase. Take notes about the big ideas in the video. You will use these notes to write your paper.

Task 3:
Learn about some of the famous explorers and their expeditions in Colorado. Click on the links below to get to the information. Each member of your group will pick one explorer to study in depth. Click on their picture and watch the video. Take notes on your note catcher.
Task 4:
Click on the activity below. Print one copy for every person in your group. Do the activity together, but on your own paper. You will need colored pencils or markers.
Task 5:
Learn about the Explorers and American Indians. Take notes on your note catcher.
Task 6:
RAFT Writing Activity. Print out or open up the RAFT guide. Follow the directions in the guide. Write your piece in your Interactive Notebook. Write neatly and edit your work. Follow the writing Rubric.
Task 7:
Based on what you have learned about the explorers, fill out the cause-and-effect guide. Glue it into your Interactive Notebook.
Task 8:
Write your paper about the explorers based on the criteria in the form below. You will do this individually, and your paper must be typed.
Task 9:
Present your information to the class! You can do this in several ways. Choose one of the options on the choice board below. There is one non-negotiable that you MUST do. That is to create a timeline of the explorers in Colorado. You will add this to the main timeline in the class.
