For my practicum work I got involved at my school site with helping teachers incorporate technology in their classrooms. Thus, I stayed after school for one hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays.I know how to effectively use various websites like: kahoot, quizizz, quizlet, khan academy, desmos, and blooket. In addition, I helped teachers with assigning a personalized i-ready lesson to students, and creating a quiz using google forms and importing the grade to google classroom.
My practicum work at the STEM-MESA center at San Bernardino Valley College was a great experience. My job at the center was to revise and create new math handouts. The technology that I used was: word and canva. The handouts were for all math levels from Algebra up to Calculus. These math handouts were going to be uploaded to a math website for the tutoring center. The tutorial coordinator was currently working on the math website.
Below are some of the math handouts that I created for the STEM-MESA tutoring center. Total math handouts that I created were 15.
Canva
Canva is a great tool to create flyers, posters and so on. During my practicmum work I used canva to create a "study skills for math" flyer.
Google forms
Google forms is another great tool to create online quizzes or tests. There are many different ways questions can be presented such as: multiple choice, short answer, paragraph answer, and fill in the blank. During my practicum work I taught teachers how to create a quiz or test using google forms.
Word
Word is a good tool to create handouts. Specifically, word is great for creating math handouts. Since word has the "equation feature" I can easily type in any math equation or formula. In addition, word contains many shapes that I can use and even add a border to my handout.
Google sites
Google sites is a new tool that I learned to use in my master's program. I used googles sites to create my ePortfolio for my master's program and also for my google classroom training. The feature that I like the most from google sites is that your work is saved constantly. Another great feature is being able to embed links to my pages. Furthermore, my audience can easily access my work by clicking the link. Thus, I have experience creating an online website.
Reflection:
Overall my practicum experience was great. I was able to accomplish my 80 hours of practicum work by: attending the "Good teaching conference", providing technology services at my school site, and also proving technology services at a tutoring center. Out of the three places, I would say providing technology services at the tutoring center was the most impactful. I attended SBVC a few years ago as a college student. In addition, I worked at that specific tutoring center for almost 3 years. I was surprised that many of the old math handouts that I used when I was a student were still being used today. Although, some handouts were very faded or the font was very blurry so they needed to get redone. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to revise and create new math handouts for the center. Most, importantly, these math handouts will be used by the students and hopefully will make math easier to understand.
