Art

with Mrs. Heberling

Bon Air Artists: K-3

At Bon Air, our young artists are practicing following the school-wide expectations of being safe, responsible, and respectful in the art room.

___________________________

  • K: Our youngest artists are focusing on elements of art, such as line, shape, color, and texture. We will use these elements to explore emotion in art and put them together to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces!
  • 1: Artists in first grade are studying and creating different types of art, such as portraits, landscapes, and self-portraits. Spring semester will bring new techniques and materials, such as clay pinchpots and printmaking!
  • 2: Second graders will continue to focus on "What inspires artists?". We use sketchbooks to record ideas. Our artwork this year will be based on inspiration from many places: our imagination, the environment, cultural traditions and more!
  • 3: In third grade, we start to dig deeper into our art elements, examining the color wheel more closely and working on still life drawing and painting like real artists do! We will study many inspiring famous artists and learn about different art genres, such as abstraction, impressionism, cubism, and pop art.

Stewart Artists: 4-5

At Stewart, we are taking our artwork to new levels. Projects are more complex, with multiple steps, original designs, practice sketches, exciting new techniques, and written reflections about our work when we're done.

___________________________

  • 4: In fourth grade, we will start off the semester by creating sketchbooks, and thinking about what artists do beyond painting and drawing (brainstorm, research, practice, reflect, refine) We will talk about narrative art, identity, and work on a self-portrait painting.
  • 5: Fifth grade artists will start the semester by taking ownership of the school culture to set the tone for the year. We will be designing collagraphs (a way to make a print using textured collage) that display positive, motivational text to hang up through the halls. We will also begin digging deeper into simple line drawing by practicing different types of contour line drawings, and we will discover how using layers can create depth in a work of art.
