7 Tips for Families with Young Adults Moving Back Home
For the first time since the Great Depression, the majority of young adults are living with their parents. Here’s how the two generations can set healthy boundaries with each other.
The Mental Health Toll of Academic Pressure
Too often, academic success comes at the expense of young adults’ social and emotional development, and the pandemic’s impact on the educational system isn’t helping.
We all know that staying at home has its challenges — parents grapple with how to keep conversations fun and engaging. Educators need to help kids develop key skills in a distance-learning environment.
The fact is that keeping our kids engaged and active is more important now than ever.
This is a vital time to build protective measures that will help your child or student make good decisions. Prevention experts are already warning that we are seeing a rise in drug use and addiction rates during this time of staying at home. We need to help our young people cultivate positive coping mechanisms — and that starts with crucial conversations and activities that keep them focused.
That’s why Natural High is kicking off our 4 for 4 Series - 4 weeks, 4 ways to engage.
Starting next week, we’ll send you the first of four emails designed to help you engage your kids with discussions and activities that are compelling and that build key skills.
Our goal is to help you use your time at home to strengthen bonds while promoting healthy decision-making. We know there are challenges right now, and we’re here to help.
Together, we can give young people the tools they need to thrive!
Sincerely,
This playlist is free for everyone — teachers holding classes at a distance or parents with kids at home — no logins or passwords required. All of the activities provided are friendly for at-home use, and some engage the entire family! You can access the Distance Learning Playlist here.

PLEASE READ...
Since COVID19, we have had enormous participation in our webinars. We realize there has been some frustration when trying to attend during a live event.
We are working to expand our platform, balancing the need to keep it free for you, yet affordable for us.
Please note that regardless of when you register for a webinar you must be in the queue of the first 1000 log-ins at the time the webinar goes "live" to be admitted. On the day of the webinar, it is a "first-come, first-serve" admission process. EVERYONE who registers will receive a link to the recording the following day.
We sincerely appreciate all of you for your interest in our content and for being great partners in parenting and prevention education.
Thank you for your patience while we expand our capacity in the months ahead.
Thank you!
All of us at 2NDFLOOR are hoping this letter finds you physically healthy. mentally, even the most resilient of us are being thoroughly challenged during this epidemic. We know this stress, isolation, and confusion can impact all of us and can be particularly difficult for adolescents and young adults. Many youths in NJ are missing the in-person interactions with counselors and teachers who provide much-needed emotional support during regular school days.
At 2NDFLOOR Youth Helpline, we are fully operational and are here to offer support to NJ youth by text/phone and message boards 24 hours a day. The majority of our recent contacts have been connected to stress and worries about the COVID 19 virus and functioning through this period. Our staff is prepared and able to offer support and resources specific to the virus and any other issue or concern that may be presented.
It is so important during this time that NJ youth ages 10-24 are reminded about 2NDFLOOR Youth Helpline as a resource. We are asking schools, agencies, clinicians, parents, youth, and anyone who can help us by sharing the link above.
Thank you for helping us to support the youth of NJ during this time.

Minding Your Mind's primary objective is to provide mental health education to adolescents, teens, and young adults, and the adults in their lives. Our goal is to end the stigma and destructive behaviors often associated with mental health issues. Minding Your Mind's programs move away from crisis-based response to prevention through education. Meet our speakers, read testimonials, and learn more about the programs we offer at our website: www.mindingyourmind.org
On Our Minds is a place where our Young Adult Speakers, clinicians, and instructors share their thoughts on a variety of subjects. We are developing a series of videos, released weekly, around specific topics, and questions addressed by members of the Minding Your Mind team. There are three available now: Managing Stress During COVID-19, COVID Cancellations, and Coping through COVID. Visit our website and follow our social media channels to stay up to date on new releases. #GivingTuesdayNow
Today, the world is coming together earlier than usual to celebrate #GivingTuesdayNow. If there's anything we've learned from this time we are living through is that the need for mental health education is more important than ever. Minding Your Mind has responded to the immediate mental health needs created by the pandemic, creating virtual programs for now, and planning ahead to address "re-entry" for the time students return to school and adults to the workplace. We have been a leader in mental health education since 2007 and continue to do this work that is vital and needed in all communities, by all people. If you are able, please consider making a donation to support our ongoing work. Every gift at every level makes a difference. Click here to give.

Everyone is Sharing The Ways They Are Celebrating the Class of 2020
May is Mental Health Month! In past years, our efforts and observances would have included many events, but—as with everyone and everything else-we are pivoting our actions, but not our message: mental health challenges are common and treatable; you are not alone, and help is available.
This year's theme for Mental Health Month is "Tools 2 Thrive," providing practical tools that everyone can use to improve their mental health and increase resiliency regardless of the situations they are dealing with. We are pleased to introduce you to some of the new tools and programs we have developed to help students and adults thrive during this time:
TEACHER TOOLKIT FOR MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION
Stress, anxiety, depression, and isolation can be converging for students during this unprecedented time. School had always been a place to find information and support, and we've been asked by educators for help in recreating that environment virtually. In response to this need, we are pleased to introduce a free teacher toolkit that takes some of the most important messages from our in-person presentations and presents them in videos, handouts, and exercises that are applicable in these current times. Designed to be used with middle school and high school students, the toolkit includes:
A pre-recorded webinar of our Young Adult Speakers and a licensed Minding Your Mind clinician discussing coping skills and how students can support their mental health during COVID-19 and beyond.
Supplemental worksheets/handouts that address common mental health conditions and challenges, helpful and harmful coping skills, protective factors, sources of support, and how to shift thinking to a positive and supportive mindset.
