MARY POPPINS
Jane and Michael Banks’s new nanny. Extraordinary and peculiar, she is neat and tidy, delightfully vain, very particular, and occasionally a bit frightening—yet always exciting. She is “practically perfect in every way” and always means what she says.

BERT
The warm and charming narrator of the story, and a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert works as a chimney sweep and sidewalk artist, among other jobs. With a twinkle in his eye and a skip in his step, he watches over the children and the happenings around Cherry Tree Lane.

JANE BANKS
The high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. Bright and precocious, though sometimes willful and a bit snobbish. She often misbehaves to gain her parents’ attention.

MICHAEL BANKS
The cheeky and excitable younger brother of Jane. Mischievous but loving, he adores his father and longs for his attention.

GEORGE BANKS
Husband to Winifred and father to Jane and Michael. A banker through and through, he demands “precision and order” at home. Though distant from his children and convinced that his strict nanny Miss Andrew raised him properly, George’s stern exterior hides a sensitive heart.

WINIFRED BANKS
George’s wife and mother to Jane and Michael. A loving homemaker trying to balance her husband’s social expectations with her desire to be a caring wife and mother. Warm and expressive.

MRS. BRILL
The overworked housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. She often complains that the household is understaffed, but her tough exterior hides genuine warmth.

ROBERTSON AY
The clumsy and forgetful houseboy for the Banks family. Frequently bungles even the simplest tasks. (His last name is pronounced like “eye.”)

George’s frightening and overbearing childhood nanny. Armed with her foul-tasting brimstone and treacle, she enforces strict discipline and insists that everything be done her way.

NELEUS
A statue brought to life by Mary Poppins who happily befriends Jane and Michael.

The lively and mysterious owner of a magical Talking Shop.

Covered in layers of old shawls, she tries to sell crumbs to passersby, who often overlook her as if she's invisible.

KATIE NANNA
Jane and Michael’s overwhelmed and exasperated nanny at the start of the show. She has completely run out of patience with the Banks children.

CHAIRMAN
The dignified head of the bank where George Banks works—an Edwardian “stuffed shirt.”
