Attendance

Patton High School Attendance Requirements

Attendance is an essential element in the learning process. The primary responsibility of school attendance rests with students and parents. Because students daily receive 90 minutes of instruction in each class, good attendance is crucial. Based on these considerations, students missing more than five (5) days per semester will not receive credit for the course and No Credit (NC) will be recorded for the grade. (Per BCPS Policy #3460) An unexcused absence will be recorded for any absence for which a student does not have a doctor’s note. Students with extenuating circumstances may file an appeal with the school attendance appeals committee prior to the completion of the course. Under certain circumstances student could be required to make up time for their absences. The required time to be made up and the procedures to follow will be determined by the school attendance appeals committee. If a student is awarded credit for a course by the school attendance appeals committee, the student’s grade will be what was assigned by the student’s teacher.

If you feel that your absences should be waived please fill out an appeals form with the appropriate documentation attached. For an appeal to be considered it must be the result of a funeral, doctor’s appointment, a court appointment, a dental appointment, or other related appointment where the student can provide official proof. All absences require a note describing the reason for the absence to be submitted within 3 days of the absence. Parent notes do not constitute an excused absence. An appeals form should be filled out covering any acquired absences you feel should be waived immediately after the student returns to school (parent/sick notes, absences which are religious in nature, etc. One (1) college day visit is allowed per semester and will be considered an excused absence for juniors and/or seniors. Verification must be received from the college.
