Mineasa Nesbit - Choral Director
I am now entering my 24th year of teaching Choral Music. I graduated from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS with both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and I began my teaching career five years later at Shannon High and Junior High Schools, located in a small rural school community in north Mississippi. This was my first public school teaching assignment where I had three very successful years. One of the highlights of my time there was our journey to our historic nation's capitol, Washington DC.
My family and I moved to Wichita Falls in 2005, where I began building the Choral Music program at Hirschi High School. During my tenure there, we traveled to festivals and concerts at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL near Chicago, Carnegie Hall in New York, City, Disney World in Orlando, FL, in our capitol here in Austin, TX and to our own famous theme park attractions, Six Flags over Texas and Six Flags, Fiesta, TX. The choir performed for district Concert & Sight-reading contests where collectively, they often received Superior and Excellent ratings both on stage and in sight-reading. Additionally, they participated in many other contests and festivals where the students were able to showcase their individual talents. I taught students who advanced in the Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA) All-State process at the district, region, and to the area rounds, and students who qualified for Texas State Solo & Ensemble by receiving superior ratings at their local district contest. For seven years prior to coming to Burkburnett, I assisted the Kirby Middle School Choirs as a co-teacher.
Growing up as a public school student, I was blessed to have some amazing teachers and coaches who poured into my life all they had in order that the end product would be the person I am today. I remember many of the lessons they taught, and I am so grateful for how they invested in me and my classmates. Because of their efforts, I teach, I give, and I do all within my power to ensure that my students are prepared, not only for their musical endeavors, but for life after public school.
I want to personally thank you for being a part of our program. I do not take this teaching privilege lightly, and I will assist you in any way possible. If you need to contact me, please do so by using the information listed on the contact page.
Thanks again for choosing Burkburnett Middle School Choir!
