All students will have bad days. Make sure you ask for help on what kind of documentation you need to keep , if any, to help student.

Have a structured classroom. This includes a clear daily schedule. 

Be direct and assertive but this can be done kindly.  

Offer Praise for good behavior.

Don't punish the class. Be mindful of problematic behavior. Ask for help to decrease it. Student keeps talking simply ask " Do you have a question?" not " Stop talking."

Talk to students. Get to know them. Figure out how they learn and what they like and don't like. 

Don't threaten a student with a consequence you can't follow thru on. 

The office should never be your idea of solving the behavior. You lose credibility when you send students to office. Ask for help but make sure you are trying to solve problem. 

Remember to talk privately about behavior.

Send home positive notes or make positive phone calls. 

Frequently check in with students

Don't sweat the small things. Try to plan ignore or ignore minor behaviors
