The goal for your child in reading is to become a stronger, more fluent reader who can successfully comprehend what they read. To this end, we will work on fluency as well as strategies to increase their reading stamina and improve comprehension.
What can we do at home?
At home, your child can help build their skills by reading for at least 20 minutes, 5 times a week. This can be in a book, magazine, or any other form of reading material.
You can also ask them about what they are reading. By becoming skilled at describing the text they read, they will be better prepared when they begin reading much more difficult material.
As the year progresses, I will contact you with things that can help them succeed. Please let me know if you have questions.
