This health class provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. This course discusses decision-making in regard to optimal health practices/outcomes and all choices carry with them consequences. Students study behaviors that may prevent illness, accidents, and stress, and promote wellness. In accordance with the California Healthy Youth Act ~ Education Code 51930 -51939, HIV/AIDS and comprehensive sexual health education will be covered in this course. As discussed in the letter included in the data confirmation process before school started, parents may examine instructional materials at the district office. State law allows parents to remove their student from any portion of the comprehensive sexual health education by providing the teacher a note by March 1, 2023.
Students will have the opportunity to investigate potential career choices, along with creating a resume, filling out a job application, and preparing for a job interview. They also learn about post-high school education options.
Topics in this course can be controversial and sometimes upsetting to certain individuals. It is important that we are all respectful of everyone’s background and beliefs.
