2018-2019

THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Nicole Kirsten Cailles

President

Joining MathSoc is unplanned. I just started as the Class Mayor so I have to represent my whole section in communicating with the university's student council and organizations. But there was this person who believed in me, and it was Rad (MathSoc's elected President before my term). He chose me to be the organization's delegate for BulSU OSO's Sail Academy. After attending the weekly seminars, it made me realized how fun and fulfilling to help the "studentry". With the support of Rad, my friends, and my classmates, I have finally decided to run for President for the academic year 2018-2019. In God's will, I was elected and I discovered that more than my desire to help the students, it made me become the better version of myself.

MathSoc serves as your friend during your college days. The organization listens to its members' needs and opinions before project implementations, it gives you a piece of advice on how to easily solve and understand mathematical problems through its seminars and tutorials for the students. It distress and cheers you up by joining its extra-curricular activities and most especially, MathSoc is your constant because it's always there for you throughout your college life.

I would like to thank the Mathematics Society for the opportunity and for preparing me for the corporate world. Truthfully, it played a huge part in discovering my fullest potential not only as a student but also as a person. To my beloved MathSoc, you will always have a special place in my heart.

Bryan Concepcion

Internal Vice President

I joined MathSoc to gain and hone my leadership skills and to meet some new friends back then. I also want to find some other activities because I'm tired of my usual daily set-up of Home-Study-Home and nothing else. I want to have and add extra activities, extracurricular activities, and some sort of group in particular, which MathSoc fulfilled. That's why I'm very proud that I became a part of it.

Sobrang saya ko during Mathsoc days. Nandyan yung "General Assembly" every year, mga pa-seminar and contest and may events. Syempre, as an officer and member ng EB, mas masaya yung meetings and preparations lagi ng mga events. Yes nakakapagod, pero nawawala yung pagod kasi masaya kayong magkakasama.

Frederick Dasalla

External Vice President

Second year ako noong nagkaroon ng Harry Potter themed GA. From an ordinary student na acads is life naging isang busy student na org is life. Nakatagpo ako ng bagong pamilya. May mga pagtatalong naganap pero that made us more solid. Ang dami kong natutunan. I can say na MathSoc helped me prepare for life after graduation. Being a member and officer of MathSoc is something that I can be proud of. Thanks to that GA, nakita ko kung ano yung purpose ng senior year ko which is to serve my fellow BS Mathematics student. I regret not joining earlier but it is never too late for anything.

Mathematics Society was really a big help for me. I started in nothing, hindi ko nga alam kung ano 'yung kaya ko pero MathSoc gives me a lot of people who is willing to help me. Ngayon, the challenge is in you. Are you ready to solve the mystery of why Mathematics Society will plays a big part of your college life? Join now and be one of us!

Being a member and an officer of the organization is stressful, but fulfilling.

Gemma VillaFuerte

Student Adviser

I was inspired by the former members who led the Mathematics Society. They all have a heart in serving our fellow students. With that said, MathSoc needs continuous caring. That’s why I joined and served too.

MathSoc is a way for students who need further guidance, specifically in their math subjects. But our service doesn’t end with that. We also organize seminars for further knowledge acquisition and general assemblies to learn, bond, and have fun with other MathSoc members.

But then nabago 'to nung naging part na ko nito, nakita ko yung essence and purpose ng organization sa college life.

What I liked about MathSoc, at bakit nga ba ako sumali dito. Siguro magkwento ako ng kaunti hano?

So when I was in first year being a BS Math AS student, year 2015, kagaya ng iba wala akong idea sa course, and nasa isip ko din that time na mag-shift nalang ng course after 1st or 2nd semester. Ang alam ko din ‘di talaga ako active sa org noon, and parang nagpapamember lang ako kasi mandatory s’ya that time. But then after a year, nag-stop ako ng pag-aaral dala ng kakulangang pang-pinansyal, then graduating din kasi that time si ate, and hindi pa free tuition. So ayun, nagwork ako, then year 2017 nagbalik ako ng pag-aaral, 2nd sem na since na-credit yung mga subjects ko nung 1st sem. That time wala na ding 2nd year ang AS kaya nag-change ako ng specialization into CS. So nag-try akong mag-apply for MathSoc EB ’18-’19. But sad to say, di ako pinalad. After that, naging active member nalang ako until magkaroon ng opportunity na mapasama sa MathSoc family. Year 2018-2019, naging PIC Committee Associate ako, kasabayan ko noon sina Pres Norie at Pres Reynan. Those activities and events that we conducted and organized, na-realize ko na ang dami palang job opportunities na pwedeng pasukan after graduating this course. Then fast forward dahil mahaba na tong kwento ko, year 2019-2021, I’ve become the MathSoc External Vice President. Di ko alam kung bakit 2 years ako sa position na ito, pero masasabi ko na isa to sa pinaka-challenging at best experience ko as a student. Kasi during 2 years of being EVP, na-experince ko s’ya in face to face and even in virtual class. And sobrang thankful ako sa MathSoc at sa lahat ng nakasama ko rito, for all those good and unforgettable experience na pinaranas n’yo sa akin.

Sana kagaya ko, ay marami din kayong maging magandang karanasan being a member or being an officer of MathSoc. Siguro mag-iwan nalang ako ng line, “In order to discover new things about yourself, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Grow with the flow.”
