A.S.P.I.R.E. Seminar 2023: Tackling Suicide Prevention, Mental Health as a Universal Human Right, and Bullying Evasion
In observance of World Mental Health Awareness Celebration this October, the Guidance and Counseling Services Center (GCSC) - Main Campus launched its spearhead project for the month entitled: Awareness on Suicide Prevention, Inclusive Right to Mental Health, Evasion of Bullying (ASPIRE) Seminar 2023, on October 25, 2023 at the BulSU College of Law Audio-Visual Room. Several students and faculty from different colleges of the Main Campus physically attended the seminar while being simultaneously livestreamed via Facebook for those who want to watch the program virtually.
Ms. Krizza Andrea M. Garcia, RPm, LPT, an Administrative Officer II of the Department of Education Schools Division of Bulacan, served as the resource speaker of the seminar where she laid out her expertise by tackling topics such as the status of mental health in the Philippines, suicide prevention, bullying evasion, and mental health as a universal human right. Included in the remarkable highlights of the event is the active participation from the audience as the resource speaker aptly discussed the pressing issues, concerns, and information revolving around mental health and taught basic techniques on enhancing the well-being of an individual or as a community.
According to Ms. Garcia, "asking for help is a strength—tandaan natin ang pagiging tapat sa nararamdaman ay hindi kahinaan; ang pag-iyak ay hindi kahinaan." Further, Ms. Garcia also talked about the points to be thinked upon about our feelings we may have in a day. "Ang pag-iyak ay katapangan kasi nagiging totoo ka sa nararamdaman ng emosyon mo," she added.
The seminar was graced with the presence of Mrs. Ma. Adora C. Tigno, the Campus Director for Student Welfare and Development - Main Campus; Assoc. Prof. Joseph Roy F. Celestino, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services - Main Campus; and Dr. Romeo DC. Inasoria, the Chancellor, Main Campus.
