Attendance at meetings is very important. Please make plans accordingly.

Make sure you turn in all service hours sheets to Mrs. Anderson within 30 days. Bringing hours sheets to each meeting is a great way to keep up to date.

Leadership:
Members must have a total of 8 Leadership Points
Not calculated in hours
8 Points will be given for NHS President; 6 Points for Vice President; 4 Points for all other members of Executive Council
4 Points for Committee Leadership (if more than one chair, points will be distributed among all); 2 Points for each committee membership
Various points will be given for each non NHS leadership role (usually no more than 2).
NHS Service:
Members must have a total of 20 NHS Service Points during junior and senior years. One point is equivalent to one hour of service. These hours can only be earned by serving at NHS sponsored events. Hours documentation sheets must be turned in for all served hours.
Individual service cannot count toward NHS service.
Individual Service:
Members must have a total of 40 Individual Service Points during the term of membership, beginning the day the member is inducted. One point is equivalent to one hour of service. These hours may be earned by serving in any capacity. Hours documentation sheets must be turned in for all served hours.
NHS Service hours may count for individual service once the member has completed the 20 required hours of NHS service.
An additional 2 hours of service is required for each monthly meeting missed due to an unexcused absence.
Character:
Each member begins membership with 5 points designated for character.
Points may be retracted due to actions taken by the member that is not becoming of a National Honor Society member, including:
1 point for each instance of failure to communicate to advisor (not answering emails, not completing forms, etc…)
1 point for disrupting meetings (by talking, distracting others, etc.)
2 points for each instance of school misbehavior resulting in disciplinary action.
5 points for misbehavior resulting in OSS
Other instances deemed determined on a case by case basis
Character points removed for minor offenses (2 points or less) may be earned back on a case by case basis. Points removed for major offenses (3 points or higher) may not be earned back.
Members are allowed to lose up to 5 character points. Once a member’s character points fall to zero, the member will be dismissed.
