FAQs

  • WHAT IS NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY? The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
  • HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER? Membership into NHS is by invitation only. Students have up to two opportunities to become a member. Applications will be distributed at the beginning of second semester to juniors who have been in attendance at Statesboro High School the equivalent of at least one semester, have a cumulative, unrounded, weighted grade point average of 93 or higher through December of their junior year, and adhere to all policies set forth in the Bulloch County Schools Student Handbook. A second round of applications will be distributed the first week of school of the following school year to seniors meeting the above requirements (grades will be calculated through the end of Junior year). Upon meeting the grade level, attendance, and GPA standard requirements, candidates shall then be determined on the basis of service, leadership, and character as shown on his/her application.
  • WHAT ACTIVITIES DO MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN? All members regularly participate in service projects. Each member is required to accumulate at least 20 hours of service through chapter planned group service events, as well as at least 40 hours of individual service.
