The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
Under the advisement of Mrs. Shannon Anderson, the 2021-2022 Statesboro High School Chapter of National Honor Society currently has 32 members. These seniors work hard to uphold the four pillars of NHS and help make Statesboro High School and the Statesboro community a great place to be!
The heart and soul of SHS NHS is serving the community and helping others. Our members are learning to be and becoming leaders in our school and community through their service and engagement with others around them. They are definitely leaving their mark on our great community before graduation and embarking on their journey at college and beyond. Below are just a few examples of how our students are making our world a better place, one step at a time.
Freshman Open House at SHS:
NHS students greeted guests and guided visitors and new students and their families around the school.
Special Night with Friends:
NHS students hosted a breakfast with our special needs students, to get them excited and ready for the night's home football game. Students socialized with cheerleaders and football players, and took lots of pictures at the photo booth that was set up. Unfortunately, because of weather, our special friends did not attend the game; however, a few months later, this event was able to be rescheduled for a Blue Devils basketball game!
Homecoming Decorating:
NHS students invited the student body to decorate the entire school for Homecoming. Each hall had its own theme and creativity flowed among members!
Stadium Cleanup:
NHS students volunteered their Saturday morning to pick up trash and clean up Womack Field and stadium after the Homecoming football game.
Trunk or Treat:
Sponsored by NHS, students and teachers decorated vehicles, had games and activities, and of course gave out mountains of candy at our annual Trunk or Treat
Feeding the Needy:
Members help out regularly at Christian Social Ministries, where they organize donated canned goods and help feed the needy.
