Bullitt Advanced Math & Science

Welcome

What is the BAMS Program?

The BAMS program for high schoolers combines rigorous academics with authentic and active learning experiences.  The students in the program have unique opportunities to work with professionals in the fields of engineering, environmental science, recombinant genetics, and more.  The BAMS program is a living model for the graduate profile where students communicate results to community partners, investigate personal interests, solve real-world problems, and practice proactive innovation. The curriculum is fast-paced, challenging, and a hybrid of lecture, labs, hands-on, and online activities that are fully supported by the BAMS staff in 9th and 10th grade. The content prepares them to transition to college curriculum their Junior year of high school and begin earning an associate of science degree.

Mission Statement

Our mission statement, built on the pillars of inquiry experiences, a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and educational outreach, puts this vision into focus by giving us concrete goals to meet each year.

We seek to help the gifted students of Bullitt County reach their full potential as learners and as people through inquiry experiences, a rigorous & relevant curriculum, and educational outreach.

Vision Statement

At BAMS, our objectives and daily focus is driven by the vision and mission statements crafted by the instructors of the program. The first is the clear and long-term desired change that we hope to effect through our work with our students in both them and the community we serve.

For every student, an exceptional education; for every person, a better community..

Bernheim

Our partnership with Bernheim is one of the cornerstone collaborations for our students. It has been a source of authentic inquiry for our students and active research. It gives our students access to unique opportunities to do real-world scientific research and answer questions that no one has yet answered with respect to the ecosystem in and surrounding Bernheim Forest.

Why BAMS?

Because of the program design, you have the opportunity to be part of a small, close-knit group of 48 students who will become lifelong friends & colleagues. Together you will have special shared experiences that aren’t afforded to other students in traditional settings. In addition to the numerous scientific and engineering endeavors BAMS students engage in, we also have a very active Beta Club that gives back to its community through food and clothing drives and volunteers in numerous ways within Bullitt County. They also show school spirit by marching in the BCHS Homecoming Parade and competing in multiple categories at the state convention each year. We don’t stop at Beta, we have other groups, too, including a yearbook team and a Dungeons & Dragons club. Oh, and of course we have many other celebrations throughout the year including a fall ball, a spring formal, a white elephant gift exchange, and numerous after-school get-togethers.

General Electric

Our strong STEM focus is made strong through our partnership with General Electric. With the support of their engineering mentors and the implementation of their systematic engineering process, our students have been given the opportunity to engage in real-world engineering methods for problem-solving. We incorporate both fall and winter extended engineering projects into our curriculum to give BAMS students an even more authentic STEM experience.

Student Development and Community Engagement

The Bullitt Advanced Math and Science (BAMS) Program is committed to fostering growth and expanding opportunities for our students each year. We actively seek partnerships and experiences that enrich their academic and professional journeys. Our students have engaged in projects with the Louisville Science Center, collaborated with the Army Corps of Engineers, and participated in bioengineering and agricultural programs at the University of Kentucky and Cornell University. They also attend leadership events like the WKU Leadership Conference and the Women’s Lead Conference and connect with local professionals across various fields. These are just a few examples of how the BAMS program continually evolves to help our students build robust resumes and prepare for future success.
