In 2026, FCCL will be celebrating 15 years as a community library
We were one of the first libraries in Buckinghamshire, and indeed the UK, to move to community status in 2011, managed and run solely by volunteers and funded largely by donations.
Since then we have operated very successfully, becoming a crucial hub for the local community with a wide range of educational, social, entertainment, creative, and public interest events and activities.
Why is a refurbishment needed?
Since 2011, we have focused all our energies and investment on books and library operations. In late 2024, the Trustees reviewed the strategy for the library and gathered feedback from users and volunteers.
One of the key outputs was a clear recommendation to refurbish the library to create a more welcoming, safe and engaging environment.
What is proposed?
The Trustees have now developed a refurbishment plan which is realistic and achievable and will hopefully give our library a new lease of life for the next generation of users, while reusing as much as possible and minimising waste.
How much is needed?
We are able to cover part of the £65,000 required from accumulated funds, but we’d like to raise as much as possible from donors and sponsors to avoid eroding funds that may be needed for the future running of the library.
Who can contribute?
We are asking local businesses, organisa tions, residents and Friends to help us achieve our goal by making a contribution to wards the refurbishment fund. Donations can be made for a specific item (see list overleaf) or as a general contribution to the overall fund.
Donors and sponsors will be recognised in our publicity and on a permanent display in the library, and will be invited to our relaunch event.
Why should I contribute?
Libraries play a fundamental role in enabling a thriving local community and educating and supporting every member from the youngest to the oldest.
We are almost entirely dependent on the support of our Friends, volunteers, donors and sponsors, and we hope you will be motivated to help us continue this important work.
